PROCEDURE FOR HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TEST
SCOPE:
This procedure establishes the steps to be followed fir conducting the Hydrostatic test in pressure vessel constructed in accordance with the rules of the ASME Boiler and pressure vessel code section VIII Div. 1.
PURPOSE:
Purpose of this procedure is to lay down the system for inspection during Hydrostatic pressure Test.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Production shall be responsible for conducting Hydrostatic Test.
The Quality shall be responsible for approval of the test and get the same witnessed by the Customer/Client/TPI.
METHOD:
1.
Visual Examination, Dimension verification, NDE, PWHT (if applicable) shall
be completed
along with verification of internal QC records NCR’s
as per approved
drawing and QAP to ensure that the
Equipment is ready for the Hydrostatic Testing.
2.
Equipment shall also be cleared by QC for visual, dimensional, material, NDE and PWHT (if applicable) before Hydrostatic Testing
Ensure no grinding
& welding work balance
on pressure part.
3.
Calibrated Dial indicating pressure
gauges used in testing for Pressure
Vessel and their
parts as per ASME Section VIII Div. 1
shall be graduated over a range of about double the
intended maximum test pressure, but in no case shall the range be less than 1 ½
nor more than 4 times that pressure.
4.
All
safety precaution to be taken before carrying out Hydro test.
5.
Quality
of Water to be use for hydro must be as per specification (PH value).
6.
The spacing
between graduations shall be such that the inspector and the operator controlling
the test shall be able to determine
when the required test pressure has been applied.
7.
At
least two pressure gauges one at the top of vessel and one at bottom of vessel
shall be used during hydrostatic testing.
8.
The
equipment shall be suitably placed & be stable for Hydrostatic Pressure
Testing.
9.
The body metal temperature during Hydrostatic Test shall be maintained within
the range minimum temperature 17°C & Maximum
temperature 48 °C. The test pressure shall not be applied
until the equipment and its contents
are at about the same temperature.
The calibrated temperature indicator shall be used for measurement.
10.
All
the surrounding and the Equipment are to be kept clean and dry so that if any
leak is there it can be easily detected
11.
Vents
shall be provided at all high points of the Equipment in the position in which
it is to be tested to purge possible air pockets while the Equipment
is filling.
12.
Raise the pressure slowly
to the Hydrostatic Test Pressure
and hold it for at least 30 Minutes
or more as mentioned in the Drawing / QAP.
13.
The close
visual inspection shall be made at a pressure not less than the test pressure divided by 1.3 as per ASME Section VIII Div 1 and inspection
shall be made of all joints
and connections.
14.
Equipment shall be visually
inspected for any leakage with adequate lighting
and for pressure change if any on the pressure gauge.
15.
Observations
shall be recorded.
16.
Once
the hydraulic test is accepted, release the pressure gradually and drain the
water.
