INWARD MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION AND TRACEABILITY





If you are doing job as a Quality Engineer in any fabrication/project industry you can use following methods for Inward material Identification & Traceability.

 

1.       SCOPE: This procedure is applicable for all Raw material / Component/ Sub-assemblies / Final finished equipment at store.

2.      PURPOSE: The purpose of this procedure is to lay down the system for identification & trace-ability of material.

3.      RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1.             Head QAC is responsible for the review, updating and control of subsequent revisions of procedure.

4.    METHOD OF INSPECTION:

4.1.            Identification of material as per Purchase Order and Invoice.

(Means differentiate material categories like Flange, Pipe, Plate, Elbow, Reducer, Bar, Fasteners etc.)

4.2.            Check the material as per pre-made Inspection Check sheet.(I already told regarding making of Check sheet for each and every material that inward into the industry as per check sheet Accept/ Hold/Reject the material)

4.3.            Only accepted raw material shall be issued to shop.

4.4.            For raw material/ components with thickness 6.00 mm or less, identification shall be done by either stenciling or permanent marking. Hard stamping is not permitted.

4.5.            Raw material which is having thickness greater than 6 mm hard punch is required. (Hard punch should contain Material Identification, Heat number, plate number, project /product name/number etc. )

4.6.            Whenever raw material is cut, respective shop engineer / store officer/QAC engineer shall ensure transferred marking shall be done.

4.7.            For ASME code equipment’s identification and stamp transfer shall be as per ASME manual.

4.8.            For equipment’s under Third Party Inspection (TPIA), identification and stamp transfer shall be as per QAP approved and accepted by TPIA.
